Hello everyone. I am an ESL teacher and have spent a good 26 years teaching in several urban and rural schools. Despite the numerous challenges and the neverending paperwork, I am still very passionate about one thing I do best – teaching. Am currently teaching at SMK Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur and am proud of the wonderful boys and girls who have come into my life and made it an enriching experience. I hope to make this blog a resource for teachers and students – to share methodology, teaching activities, lesson plans, useful websites and anything else that can enhance the teaching and learning of ESL. I am a firm believer in lifelong learning. As John C. Dana says “Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” I also believe that teaching should come from the heart – teach because you love teaching; teach because you want to make a difference in a student’s life. Finally, good teachers are like oak trees – they are able to weather all sorts of challenges; hence the name of this blog – shadyoak.

If only there were many many more teachers out there who had your level of dedication. If that really were the case, I would imagine learning to be so much more enjoyable for students (and teachers), rather than it being a case of “just because we have to”.
Keep up the good work. It makes me wonder how much time actually goes into each post everytime you put something up.
It’s a 5-star rating for me, and it’s not because we’re related.
Here is a good good link for anyone who is interested in seeing how ESL programs and curriculum are being developed at international schools. http://lallison.wordpress.com/
